Boston Shutout by Les Canadiennes

The Boston Blades hosted Les Canadiennes de Montreal for their final meeting of the regular season on Sunday where the Blades would fall by a final score of 6-0.

Boston’s Lauren Dahm got the start through the first 40 minutes of play with Amanda Carridi taking over for the final 20. Dahm and Carridi faced 38 shots between the two of them. Marie-Soleil Deschenes was in net for Montreal, stopping all 15 shots she faced.

First Period

Montreal started off their scoring at the 3:35 mark with Ann-Sophie Bettez’s 17th goal of the season with assists coming from Sarah Lefort and Noemie Marin.

32 seconds later, Marin would tally her own goal assisted by Lefort and Bettez to put Les Canadiennes up by 2.

About 5 minutes in, Meghan Spurling skated into the offensive zone and Erin Kickham had a good chance with a shot on net, but wasn’t able to sink it in.

With 11:11 remaining, a 3-on-2 opportunity with Kate Leary and Kickham almost put Boston on the board, but Deschenes was able to make the stop.

With five minutes and 30 seconds remaining, Montreal would tally a third goal with Caroline Ouellette’s first of the year assisted by Emmanuelle Blais.

Both Dahm and Kristina Brown would block a few shots near the end of the period and at intermission, the Blades would head to the locker room down by 3 with Montreal leading in shots 18-6.

Second Period

36 seconds in, Boston would head to the penalty kill after Jordan Hampton took a tripping penalty. The Blades prevented Montreal from scoring on this personnel advantage.

Bettez would tally another goal at the 15:35 mark of this period with the assist coming from Lefort.

A few seconds later, Dahm would make a poke check save to keep her team trailing by 4.

Dru Burns and Megan Myers combined for a good scoring opportunity with about 5 minutes remaining and Casey Stathopolous and Kickham had a good chance of their own but the period ended with the Blades trailing 4-0.

Third Period

Carridi entered the game to start the third and the score remained unchanged until the 12:26 mark where Sarah Lefort tallied her 13th goal of the year unassisted.

A minute and 30 seconds later, Les Canadiennes would go up by 6 with Katia Clement-Hyedra’s 12th of the season with assists coming from Karell Emard and Laurence Beaulieu.

With about three minutes left, Boston had a 3-on-1 chance with Leary taking the shot, but the Blades wouldn’t end up scoring in this one with Montreal taking the 6-0 win.

The Blades have now entered the Olympic break and will not play until February 24. They’ll be traveling to Calgary to face the Inferno for their final series of the regular season.
