Series Preview: Worcester’s Coming Home

The Blades are back in Worcester to start off 2019. They’ll face the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday this week.

Along with Coworker Day and a Toy Drive, Boston Red Sox reporter for NBC Sports Boston, Evan Drellich, will be in the building as the Public Address Announcer for Saturday’s game.

Recent Games

The Blades ended December in Markham where they dropped both games by final scores of 4-1 and 6-1, falling to 0-17 on the season. Courtney Turner and Morgan Turner were the goal scorers that weekend.

Shenzhen is beginning their North American road trip facing the Blades, Montreal, and Calgary. They dropped their last three games to Les Canadiennes by scores of 4-1, 5-1, and 6-3.

The Match Up

Worcester played in China back in November where they fell in all three games with Shenzhen scoring 10 goals in their final meeting.

Goal scorers for the Rays included former Blade, Michelle Ng, and Alex Carpenter. The Blades’ goals were scored by Meghan Grieves and Erin Kickham.

Vanke Player to Watch

Rachel Llanes – Forward 

Llanes played for the Blades from 2013-2015. She joined and won the Isobel Cup with the Boston Pride in 2016, and has made her way back to the CWHL with the Rays. The Northeastern University grad has 5 goals and 7 assists on the season.

Worcester Player to Watch

Courtney Turner – Forward

Turner scored in the Blades’ last matchup with Markham and has an assist on the season as well. She’s in her second season with the Blades and has been creating more and more offensive chances as the season goes on.
