We’re on to Shenzhen: Worcester’s China Trip Preview

The Blades arrived in Shenzhen, China this past weekend to face the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays on November 6, 9, and 10. Worcester is 0-6-0 on the season so far, and is looking for a better result in China.

This is the second trip in Blades’ history, which they really enjoyed last season. Grieves spoke last week about the experience and what she’s looking forward to this time around.

“Our China trip last year was awesome, such a fun time. We got really close as a team, that’s when we really started to hit our stride last year. So i think we’re excited to not only go over there and play really good hockey in front of a really good crowd, but also hang out and have some fun together and get closer as a team,” she stated.

The Rays

Tied in the standings with Toronto and Markham, Shenzhen totals 6 points on the season. The Rays and Blades faced off in the preseason with two games in which the Rays won by scores of 2-1 and 2-0. They’ll host their home opener on Tuesday as Alex Carpenter, Cayley Mercer, and Emma Woods are all tied with 5 points for the team lead.

Rays Player to Watch

Alex Carpenter (Forward)

Carpenter currently leads Shenzhen with three goals and two assists in seven games played. She joined the Kunlun Red Star last season, earning 12 points in 13 games played. Known for her success with USA Hockey in the past six IIHF World Championship games, Carpenter also played in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Blades Player to Watch

Casey Stathopoulos (Forward)

Stathopoulos is in her second season with the team. She currently leads the Blades with two goals in six games played. She’s provided great offensive opportunities in the past few weeks and is looking to build off of this in the three game stint in China.
